Photoxels Editor's Choice 2009 - Super Zoom
Category: Beginner to Serious Amateur
The Fujifilm FinePix S200EXR follows in the footsteps of the award-winning FinePix S100FS. It features 12MP resolution on a 1/1.6 in. Super CCD EXR image sensor which allows you to optimize the image capture according to the scene: High Resolution, Wide Dynamic Range or High Sensitivity & Low Noise.
"Resolution Priority" uses the full 12 megapixel resolution to capture the scene in fine detail. For scenes with an extreme range between the brightest and darkest areas, "D-range Priority" simultaneously captures and combines two images to produce a single 6MP image with Wide Dynamic Range up to 800% so as to reveal detail in shadows and eliminate highlight burntout in bright areas. In dark scenes, "High ISO & Low Noise Priority" uses Fujifilm's pixel binning technology to capture a 6MP image with exceptionally low noise.
Set the camera to "EXR Auto" and the camera automatically recognizes the scene (selects the appropriate Scene Mode) and switches to the correct sensor mode. For more manual control, select a PASM mode.
Film Simulation Mode simulates the distinctive look of 5 different film types: PROVIA (Standard), Velvia (Vivid), ASTIA (Soft), Black & White, and Sepia. Besides the standard AE Bracketing, the Fujifilm S200EXR also has Film Simulation Bracketing and Dynamic Range Bracketing.
A 14.3x wide-angle optical zoom (30.5-436mm equiv.) is perfect for capturing landscapes as well as long telephoto shots. Optical Image Stabilization helps reduce blur at the long focal lengths. LCD is 2.7-in. (230K dots) with wide-viewing angle. Movie recording is 640 x 480 pixels at 30 frames/sec
with monaural sound.
With the new Multi Frame feature, you just press the shutter once and the camera automatically takes a rapid series of exposures, analyzes them, and then aligns them to produce a single frame. Two new shooting modes take advantage of this new feature:
- Pro Focus Mode - the camera takes one picture focused on your main subject (typically a portrait), then a number of pictures at different focus points to produce an out-of-focus background.
- Pro Low-Light Mode - the camera automatically takes a series of four high-sensitivity & low-noise exposures and then combines them into an image with less noise than the single exposures.
The AF modes offer high-speed, high-precision focusing for subjects in low light with increased AF sensitivity. Manual focus is available.
The Fujifilm S200EXR attemps to provide an all-in-one solution for photo enthusiasts and advanced amateur photographers seeking the manual controls and functionality of a DSLR without the bulk, hassle and expense of additional lenses and other accessories. Now incorporating the award-winning EXR sensor technology.
With a Two-year Canadian Manufacturer’s Warranty.
