The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 is the world’s smallest Interchangeable Lens System camera with a built-in flash and combines the photographic optics of a DSLR with the size and simplicity of a point and shoot. It delivers professional quality images without the bulk of a conventional DSLR thanks to its slim body and advanced high-speed Live View technologies.
The Lumix GF1 features 12.1MP resolution (on a 17.3 x 13.0 mm Live MOS Sensor), Dust Reduction, an extra large 3.0-in. LCD (460K dots) and HD Movie (1280×720 @ 30fps) in AVCHD Lite format. Its Contrast Auto Focus is as fast as the Phase-detection focus on entry-level DSLRs.
Beginner photographers will welcome familiar features such as Intelligent AUTO (iA) for both stills and movies, Intelligent Exposure, Intelligent Scene Selector, Intelligent ISO Control, Face Detection AF/AE, Face Recognition, AF Tracking, Mega Optical Image Stabilization (lens based), and a built-in flash. More advanced photographers will appreciate PASM modes, a Shutter speed range of 60 – 1/4000 sec. plus Bulb (up to 4 min.), Continuous Shooting at 3fps, RAW file format, and a hot shoe. There is a built-in flash, AF Illuminator and the tripod mount is centered and inline with the lens.
An optional Live View Finder, DMW-LVF1, snaps into the hot shoe to provide 100% coverage no matter which lens is attached. The view finder is tiltable 90°, making it convenient to take close ups and when the camera is on a tripod.
The micro FourThirds (mFT) lens mount enables the use of smaller and lighter interchangeable lenses that perform at the same level as larger DSLR lenses. In addition, more than 20 available Leica M/R lenses or 30 Four Thirds lenses can be used with the Micro Four Thirds System standard GF1 (separate lens adaptor required).
As with the GH1, The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 is a Digital Interchangeable Lens camera that uses a large sensor in a compact body. It provides entry-level DSLR image quality and performance in a super compact and light body.
Take a look at the Panasonic GF1's cousin, the Olympus E-P1.
