Sony Canada + Sony World Photography Awards: Canada National Award 2015 is Open to All Canadians Until 5 January

Each year the Sony World Photography Awards celebrates the very best international contemporary photography.

This is an update to the previous blog, Sony World Photography Awards 2015 For All: Enter Now for Professional, Open, Youth and Cruises Competitions.

Calling all Canadian photographers. Have your best photograph seen by the world in the Sony World Photography Awards National Award competition.

The Sony World Photography Awards are committed to engaging with and supporting talented photographers from around the globe. It is for this reason that we are thrilled to be able to work closely with Sony Canada to identify the local photographers that are producing great work and pushing their own creative boundaries, so that we can raise their profile across the globe and provide inspiration to other budding Canadian photographers.

The Canada National Award will uncover and honour the best single image by a Canadian photographer.

  • The winner of the Canada National Award will be chosen from entries into the ten Open categories of the Open competition of the 2015 Sony Word Photography Awards taken by Canadian nationals.
  • Entries are FREE and photographers can enter any of ten categories.
  • The judges will uncover and honour the best single image by a Canadian national from across these categories.
  • Entries close: 5 January 2015.

Prizes

One winner and two runners-up of the 2015 Sony World Photography Awards Canada National Award will receive:

1st place:

  • Sony digital imaging equipment (model TBC).
  • Winning image exhibited as part of the 2015 Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition at Somerset House, London from 24th of April to 10th of May 2015.
  • Winning image showcased on www.worldphoto.org.

2nd place:

  • 12 months WPO premium membership on www.worldphoto.org .
  • Image digitally exhibited as part of the 2015 Sony World Photography Exhibition at Somerset House, London from 24th of April to 10th of May 2015.
  • Image showcased on www.worldphoto.org .

3rd place: 

  • 12 months WPO advanced membership on www.worldphoto.org .
  • Image digitally exhibited as part of the 2015 Sony World Photography Exhibition at Somerset House, London from 24th of April to 10th of May 2015.
  • Image showcased on www.worldphoto.org .

Please note the National Award competition is open to photographers entering the Open categories of the 2015 Sony World Photography Awards. Once you enter the Open competition you will not be able to enter the Youth or Professional competition.

….If you are under 16, you have Your parent’s or legal guardian’s consent to participate in the Competition.

If WPO does not receive a valid signed parental or legal guardian consent form for any winner under the age of 16 within 7 clear days of the contestant being declared a winner (excluding the day on which such declaration is made by WPO) WPO will be entitled to select an alternative winner from among the contestants….

WPO recognises you, the author of the image, retain full ownership of the copyright in each Entry.

All entrants understand that any image submitted to the competition may be used by WPO, and its Event Partners, for marketing and promotional purposes of the event only, for a maximum of three years after the awards ceremony date in April 2015. You hereby grant WPO a non-exclusive, irrevocable licence in each Entry throughout the world for three years in all media for any use connected to the promotion of the SWPA event and/or competition, including, but not limited too:
(a) judging the Competition
(b) displaying the winning entries and runners up at public exhibitions promoting WPO and organised by WPO
(c) inclusion within the Website, a World Photography Awards book, magazine or similar
(d) inclusion within any materials promoting of the Competition and / or any exhibition organised by WPO, in the promotion of the WPO
(e) inclusion on Competition- and exhibition-related products to be sold by the WPO or any third party following the individual agreement by the author
(f) sub-licencing the Entries to the press for reproduction in connection with the Competition and any exhibition
(g) allowing viewers of the Website and/or SWPA Application to view images on a computer screen, PDA or mobile telephone and store such pages in electronic form on disk or on a PDA or mobile telephone (but not on any server or other storage device connected to a network) for their personal, non-commercial use only. Please also refer to clause 9.
(h) incorporation by WPO and SWPA Event Partners in SWPA Galleries and or SWPA Gallery Applications on Event Partner devices for a period of three (3) years after the applicable award ceremony date.  Notwithstanding the foregoing, You hereby acknowledge and agree if Your image is included in such SWPA Galleries or SWPA Gallery Applications Your image will remain perpetually in the device royalty free….

You agree to participate in related publicity and to the use of Your name and likeness for the purposes of advertising, promotion and publicity without additional compensation….

SONY WORLD PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS LAUNCH HUNT TO UNCOVER CANADA’S BEST PHOTOGRAPHER

TORONTO, October 30, 2014 – The Sony World Photography Awards, one of the world’s most prestigious photography competitions, together with Sony Canada, today launches a competition to discover Canada’s best photographer.

Canada National Award is open to photographers of all abilities from across Canada. Entries are free via www.worldphoto.org and photographers can enter any of ten categories. The judges will uncover and honour the best single image by a Canadian national from across these categories.

This special award offers an amazing opportunity for budding photographers to have their work seen globally and be recognized alongside the world’s leading photographers.

The winner of the Canadian National Award will be announced on 18 March 2015.  The winning photographer will receive the latest photographic equipment from Sony while two further photographers will receive runners-up prizes. All three photographers will have their work displayed alongside professional photographers from around the globe as part of the 2015 Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition held at Somerset House in London from 24th of April to 10th of May 2015 and showcased online at www.worldphoto.org/canada.

Each year the Sony World Photography Awards celebrates the very best international contemporary photography. The awards include: 15 Professional categories for serious photographers; 10 Open categories for enthusiasts; the Student Focus competition for higher education photography students aged 18-28 and a Youth Competition for photographers under 20.

The winner of the Canadian National Award will be chosen from entries to the Open competition of the 2015 Sony Word Photography Awards taken by Canadian nationals.

The Open competition includes ten categories:

The competition will close on 5 January 2015.  Entries will firstly be judged by WPO’s pre-selection committee and a winner will be decided by a special judging panel including Astrid Merget, creative director of the World Photography Organization.
