World Press Photo believes in the power of photojournalism to change the world and inspire understanding.
The 2015 World Press Photo Contests are the world’s largest for professional press photographers and photojournalists.
- Calling all professional photographers and visual storytellers! The 2015 Photo and Multimedia Contests are open for entries!
- All the prize-winning photographs are assembled into an exhibition that travels to 45 countries over the course of a year, and published in World Press Photo‘s yearbook which is is published in seven languages and distributed worldwide.
2015 World Press Photo Contest
The World Press Photo contest is only open to professional photographers and photojournalists.
A username and password are required to enter and can be requested until 8 January 2015, 23.59 CET.

Several new features of the 2015 Photo Contest include:
- the Portraits and Sports categories have become two sole categories;
- the new category Long Term Projects is meant to reward a body of work on a single theme, which demonstrates a photographer’s long-term commitment to a project – entries in this category can consist of between 24 and 30 pictures;
- story entries may contain 2-10 images, instead of 12 from prior years; and
- participants are now required to provide file(s) as recorded by the camera for all images that proceed to the final stages of the contest. These file(s) will be requested and studied confidentially during the judging period (1-11 February 2015). A failure to provide these files before 11 February 2015 will lead to the elimination of the entry.
The same image can only be entered once, either as a single or as part of a story/portfolio or as part of a body of work in Long-Term Projects.
Judging
An international jury of leading professionals in the field of photojournalism will judge the entries at the World Press Photo office in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, from the beginning of February. The results of the 2015 Photo Contest will be announced on 12 February 2015.

If a photo is selected as the World Press Photo of the Year 2014, the photographer grants World Press Photo permission for its unlimited use for activities under the auspices of World Press Photo, without any remuneration being due.
The photographer grants World Press Photo permission to use prize-winning material in all media, including online, in relation to the contest, the exhibition, the yearbook, and all promotional activities for World Press Photo, without any remuneration being due. This permission is limited to an 18-month period from the announcement of the 2015 awards and is applicable only if the material is selected by the jury.
The photographer grants World Press Photo permission to use material submitted in the contest and selected by the jury indefinitely and without any remuneration being due, in its online archive showcasing the results of previous contests.

2015 World Press Photo Multimedia Contest
The World Press Photo Multimedia Contest is only open to entries that include work of a professional visual journalist.
- Entries may only be submitted online via the World Press Photo entry website here.
- Only entries submitted via the entry website will be accepted.
- The deadline for registrations and submissions is 14 January 2015, 23.59 CET.
There are three categories.
- Short Feature
- Long Feature
- Interactive Documentary
All productions must either have English-language audio and/or text or must be subtitled in English.
Multimedia Contest judging
The multimedia contest is set up separately from the annual photojournalism contest and different rules of entry apply, with the entries judged by different teams of jury members consisting of leading professionals from the fields of visual journalism and documentary storytelling. The results of the 2015 Multimedia Contest will be announced on 11 March 2015.

All winners will be contacted prior to the announcement of the results (on 11 March 2015) and asked to provide the hi-res production files in the categories Short Feature and Long Feature or a minimum of five screenshots in the category Interactive Documentary. These files will be used to promote the winners on the World Press Photo website, the online archive, multimedia exhibitions, screenings etc. and for promotional activities. By entering your production you agree to provide the production files/screenshots in the case that it is awarded a prize by the jury….
World Press Photo may use any Material awarded by the jury in any and all media (including but not limited to print, online and broadcast) – either on its own and under its auspices in cooperation with others – for use in multimedia exhibitions and screenings to promote the results of the 2015 contest and/or for promotional activities of World Press Photo without any remuneration being due. This permission is limited to an 18-month period from the announcement of the 2015 winners. Due credit must always be given.
World Press Photo may use the Material that is selected by the jury indefinitely, and without any remuneration being due, in the organization’s online archive showcasing the results of previous contests.
