45% of Employers Research Prospective Employees Using Facebook

It seems that more and more employers are using the social media, such as Facebook, to screen prospective employees. A CareerBuilder survey found that up to 45% of of employers use social networking sites to research job candidates. 29 percent use Facebook, 26 percent use LinkedIn and 21 percent use MySpace. 11 percent search blogs while 7 percent follow candidates on Twitter. The reasons for disqualifying a candidate range from the important (content about them using drugs) to the trivial (candidate sent a message using an emoticon such as a smiley face).
