On September 11, 2001, Astronaut Frank Culberston made a routine check-in call from the International Space Station to mission control and learned of the horrific attacks on the World Trade Center. At that time, he was apparently the only American not on the planet. As New York flashed below him, he grabbed a video camera and made the recording above, from space, 250 miles above the Earth’s surface.
