A Sign of the Times? Say It Ain’t So: Olympus Exits Camera Business in South Korea

The Korea Times reported today that the Korean branch of Olympus is exiting its camera business in South Korea. The reason given is decreasing sales. Olympus is planning to stay in the South Korean market, focusing on optical equipment for medical purposes and scientific equipment.

Olympus Korea plans to “cease its imaging business in Korea, effective June 30, 2020.” It is closing its Brand Store (operated by Olympus Korea in southern Seoul). What is surprising and a bit odd is that it is also closing its online shopping mall E-store.

Those who have bought Olympus cameras can expect to continue receiving servicing at its the service facility until March 31, 2026.
