Sony W170 Metal Plating Advisory

Notice Regarding DSC-W170 Metal Plating

Posted: 08/20/2009

Thank you for your continued interest in Sony® products.

Sony has recently discovered that some DSC-W170 Cyber-shot® digital still cameras may exhibit peeling of the metal plating on the bezel surrounding the lens, resulting in splinters.

In its continuing effort to ensure customer satisfaction, Sony will offer free service to replace the front cabinet, including the bezel, on units that fall within the affected serial number range.
Note: For any other issues, the terms and conditions of the limited warranty apply.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and thank you for your kind understanding and cooperation.

Symptom and Cause

Affected Area

With certain DSC-W170 cameras, the metal plating on the bezel surrounding the lens may peel, causing splinters.

This is caused by thin metal plating combined with the bezel’s grooved surface.
