From Earth, we always see only one face of our Moon. The gravitational pull of the Earth on the moon keeps it “tidally locked,” with the same face always pointed toward Earth. However, NASA researchers have stitched together 36 nearly complete mosaics of the moon taken with the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter’s (LRO) Wide Angle Camera to give us an “impossible from Earth, the Moon as you’ll never see it from Earth” view of the celestial body.
