Become A Better Photographer: Photoxels Tutorials

Sometimes, all you need to become a better photographer is to understand a small concept, like the Histogram or optical zoom vs. digital zoom. You won’t read anything impressive and there are no fancy graphs, tables and visuals — just easy-to-read text accompanied with a couple of pictures that I took personally. The premise is simple enough: there are too many tutorials out there that impart theoretical knowledge, not enough practical ones. And those that are usually trying to impress you with their skills, not share their knowledge. Anybody can copy and paste a tutorial and accompany it with tons of beautiful pictures borrowed from Flickr. Going out and trying it yourself and having the pictures to prove it is another. I am not a great photographer, far from it. Just sharing what I’ve learned and understood, tried and found useful.

Take White Balance, for example. Did you know you can use it “wrong” purposefully to alter the color cast in your picture? Joshua Cogan did it on purpose to achieve a blue cast for his Lincoln Memorial picture.

So why not spend a quiet week-end and visit our Digital Photography Tutorials section? Each tutorial is short and can be read in one sitting. You may find some inspiration or learn something new. And, if you do find them useful, please pass them on to a friend.
