On January 10, 2010, Mr. Tu decided to test out his new camera by shooting people walking about in the Tian Yi Square. When he posted his samples on the Internet, one particular photo caught viewers’ attention and the person pictured in it became an instant fame.
Nicknamed Brother Sharp for his fashionable clothes, viewers started inserting Brother Sharp on posters of popular movies, such as The Matrix. People started to look for him on the streets.
The story has a good ending: on March 5, 2010, after a search for Brother Sharp, he was reunited with his brother. His real name is Chen Guorong, born October 10, 1975, in the Boyang County, Jangxi province. He left home for work 11 years earlier and his family never heard back from him. Family members have searched for him multiple times, the most recent being in 2008, and if it were not for his Internet fame, he would still be on the streets. A movie about Brother Sharp is now in the works starring Hong Kong actor and model Carl Ng.
But, we ask, what of the thousands other homeless on our streets? Maybe we need to also get them “fame on the Internet” to reunite them with their families?
