The Canon PowerShot SD1300 IS features 12.1MP resolution (1/2.3-in. CCD), 4x wide-angle optical zoom (28-112mm equiv.), built-in optical image stabilization, and a 6.9-cm (2.7-in.) LCD display screen (230-k dot).
The 4x wide-angle optical zoom is ideal for capturing sweeping landscapes, wide interior shots, and large family gathering shots. The medium telephoto is perfect for portraits. Optical Image Stabilization helps reduce camera shake and avoid blurred photos at the maximum focal length or in challenging low lighting conditions.
For general purpose photography, Smart AUTO shooting mode analyzes your scene and automatically selects the appropriate setting. For more challenging shooting situations, match the scene yourself to the appropriate Scene Mode. For example, Night Snapshot scene mode sets the camera so you can take a night picture where the main subject (lit by flash) and the background (long exposure) are both recorded. Low Light scene mode extends the high ISO up to 6400 when photographing without flash in dimly-lit situations. Long Shutter scene mode extends the shutter speed range from 1 sec. to 15 sec. for creative night photography.
For those who desire a bit more control, switch to Program AE (P) mode and dial in an exposure compensation to compensate for scenes that are too bright or too dark. Custom White Balance allows you to obtain the correct colors under artificial lighting situations.
For artistic photo effects, My Colors can record your pictures more Vivid, Neutral, Sepia, Black & White — or use Custom Color to adjust the contrast, sharpness and saturation to your taste.
You can shoot movie 640×480 pixels at 30fps with monaural sound. The Canon PowerShot SD1300 IS is ideal for those desiring an ultra compact and easy-to-use point-and-shoot digital camera. It comes in Green, Blue, Pink, Silver or Brown, priced at about US $200 (CAD $250).

In my opinion, anything over 12 megapixels is too much. It puts stress on the CCD which produces bad pictures. People see a higher megapixel camera and automatically assume it’s going to be good. I think 10 megapixels is fine for a compact digital camera. The Canon SD1300 is at the top of the line right now. The Canon SD1400 is crap because of the 14mp. A compact digital camera honestly can’t handle anything over 12mp without degrading the overall quality of the picture. Keep that in mind.
Overall, the Canon SD1300 produces excellent quality pictures. I only wish they would have a 3:2 option because that’s what I use.
4:3 is the old standard, and 3:2 is the new widescreen!
