QUICKFACT SHEET

The Canon EOS R50 is Canon’s cheapest entry-level APS-C mirrorless camera based on the RF lens mount. It features a fast and precise Tracking AF for people, animals and vehicles. For vloggers, the AF will prioritize a product close to the camera and then refocus on the face when the camera is removed.

The EOS R50 is targeted to content creators who want to move up from their smartphone cameras. Besides Full AUTO mode, the EOS R50 features easy-to-use Scene Modes and Creative filters. Advanced A+ Auto mode further automates selecting the proper scene mode, reducing the need for the user’s manual intervention. The EOS R50 accepts the full range of Canon RF lenses.

The Canon EOS R50 (US $679.99) is a very affordable APS-C mirrorless camera with a strong feature set for stills and video shooting. The EOS R50 uses the same RF mount as Canon’s full-frame mirrorless cameras, and since there aren’t many Canon lenses made specifically for APS-C, you end up having to pay premium prices for the larger and heavier full-frame lenses (with a crop factor). We recommend that you purchase it together with one of the more affordable kit lenses: either the Canon RF-S18-45mm (29-72mm equiv.) F4.5-6.3 IS STM lens (US $299.99, lens; US $799.99, R50 + lens) or both the RF-S18-45mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM and RF-S55-210mm (88-336mm equiv.) F5-7.1 IS STM lenses (US $1,029.00, R50 + lenses).

If you need a slightly better specced APS-C mirrorless camera, check out the Canon EOS R10 (US $679.99). If you desire In-Body Image Stabilization, weather-sealing, more video options, then check out the Canon EOS R7 (US $1,499).

If you want a full-frame sensor, check out the 20MP Canon EOS R6 (US $2,099) or the 24.2MP Canon EOS R8 (US $1,499).
