Family DSLR adds full HD 1080p Movie. The Canon EOS Rebel T2i / 550D is Canon’s new flagship Rebel model and features 18MP resolution on a large APS-C CMOS image sensor, a large 3.0-in. high resolution (1.04 million dots) LCD display screen, ISO range of 100-6400 (expandable to 12,800), and Full HD Movie 1920×1080 at 30fps. It is targeted to Families, as well as beginner and serious amateur photographers.

Canon digital SLR cameras are well-known for their clean low light images and the EOS T2i / 550D features an expanded ISO range that makes shooting low noise high quality images possible in very low light situations without using flash. The Canon EOS T2i / 550D has opted for Lens-shift (Optical) Image Stabilization (OIS). Image Stabilization helps reduce camera shake when using slow shutter speeds and at long focal lengths. Image Stabilization is available in the EF-S 18-55mm [29-88mm equiv.] f/3.5-5.6 IS kit lens.

The EOS T2i / 550D has a large 3.0-in. high resolution (1.04 million dots) LCD screen with an anti-reflective and water-repellant coating. It also has a display-off sensor that turns off the shooting settings display automatically when your eye nears the viewfinder eyepiece.

The EOS T2i / 550D records in Full HD video and allows the use of manual controls. Shallow depth-of-field is now possible with the use of the proper lens as well as recording in poor lighting conditions. In a first for EOS cameras, a Movie Crop function is included: An SD-quality movie (640 x 480) can be cropped to the equivalent of about 7x magnification of regular shooting. Though the built-in microphone records mono sound, you can attach an optional external microphone to record stereo sound.

A 9-point AF system utilizes a high-precision f/2.8 cross-type center point. The 9 focus points can be chosen automatically or manually selected.

Beginning amateur photographers will feel comfortable with the EOS T2i / 550D’s AUTO and easy-to-use Scene Modes. More advanced photographers will appreciate the full exposure flexibility provided by the PASM (Program AE, Aperture-Priority AE, Shutter-Priority AE, Manual) modes, as well as the availability of RAW file capture.

The EOS T2i / 550D is compatible with all Canon lenses in the EF lineup, including compact and lightweight EF-S lenses, ranging from ultra-wide angle to super telephoto lenses. As with any interchangeable lens camera, dust can enter the camera and land on the sensor whenever a lens is changed. The EOS T2i / 550D has a Self Cleaning Sensor Unit that shakes off dust on the front of the sensor everytime the camera is turned ON or OFF.

The EOS Rebel T2i is compatible with both SDXC memory cards for greater storage capacity and with Eye-Fi SD cards which are outfitted with a Wi-Fi transmitter (IEEE 802.11b/g) and internal antenna for wireless, high-speed transfer of images. With an Eye-Fi card installed, the EOS Rebel T2i can display the Eye-Fi’s connection status and error notes with ease, for fully functional wireless uploading of images directly from the camera. A new optional slimline Remote Control RC-6 can fire the shutter from up to five meters away (with immediate release or a 2 sec. delay).
