Canon, Nikon, the Mirrorless DSLR and the Future

If you read anything today, read this article over at Luminous Landscape about the coming “epic battle” in mirrorless DSLRs and dedicated large sensor video cameras. And how the two biggest names in traditional DSLRs are regrettably absent.

It reminds me so much of the early days of digital photography when Kodak, after having pioneered the consumer digital camera, saw it fit to ignore it and concentrate instead on its then still lucrative film photography business. The future, in our humble opinion, is digital, mirrorless, large sensor and compact.

Who knows, rumors are rife that both Canon and Nikon are working on their own visions of the compact mirrorless large-sensor DSLRs, and we might be surprised yet.
