Closing Event for International Photography Exhibit

It’s arrived! That special something fresh and new that Toronto has been waiting for! This is the last chance to check out this International Exhibit at the closing event. The photographer, who has recently settled in Canada after many years of travelling, captures the very essence and souls of his subjects, as well as capturing the imagination of all who meet him.

Don’t miss your last chance to see these unique and one of a kind works of art. Featuring thought provoking portraits from Cuba, Costa Rica and post quake Haiti. Retratos, meaning “portraits” in Spanish, is the suitable and fitting title of this Photography exhibit.

International Photographer Carlos Scott Wilson is already making a name for himself in Canada, here in Toronto, after his first exhibit was held over twice (an additional 2 months) due to popular demand.

His style will captivate not only the avid art goer, enthusiast and collector, but also attracts the attention of fellow professional photographers, as well as your average Joe passing on the street.

The exhibit which opened January 28, 2011 has drastically increased the street traffic of the authentic little Argentinean café where it is being displayed, El Almacen. Spend a few minutes, a few hours or a whole afternoon relaxing in this one of a kind Yerba Mate café, and watch how many passersby stop just to stare in at the captivating and eye catching portraits.

The closing event, to be held on Thursday APRIL 21, 2011 beginning at 7pm will hold something interesting and entertaining for all, with The QuiQue Escamilla Band who play a mix of Latin/Reggae/Rock music. Sign the guestbook and be entered to win a Fujifilm Digital Camera.

Having the chance to speak to the artist, Carlos Scott Wilson about his photography, and learn the origins of these faces on the canvases, is part of the amazing experience numerous people have commented on.

He is not who you would expect to see on the other side of the lens that captured these striking images, as many have noted. A Costa Rican who has travelled the world extensively, and studied Photography in New York City, Carlos is breath of fresh air to Toronto’s art community. Also a writer, he has interesting views on relevant and controversial issues, if you can convince him to read a few of his writings. This multitalented artist is also a diverse music lover who DJ’s in his spare time for enjoyment, and professionally on occasion.

His work has been published in various books, as well as international magazines, including National Geographic. His exhibits have been shown in New York, Costa Rica, Spain and the Dominican Republic. Now Toronto is lucky to have him making Canada his home base, as he begins a new life here with his family.

So come on down, and don’t miss your last chance to see some of these amazing portraits. Since they are one-of-a-kind artwork, many of them will not be on display again! Some of the canvases have been sold already, but will continue to be on display until the closing.

Where and when will you be able to see this artists’ incredible work again? Check out the same location during Scotia Bank’s La Nuit Blanche in October of this year, and check the website for updates on showings during the summer.
