Cookie Splash Behind The Scenes

Cookie splash from De Vetpan Studios on Vimeo.

Siebe Warmoeskerken has some beautiful pictures of various splashing liquid in cups over at his Cookie Splash series on Flickr. This Behind the Scenes video documents how he did it.

The basic setup are:

  • Manually focus on the cup and ensure you’re including enough space above and to the sides to capture the whole splash and some other interesting tidbits, like scrumptious cookies
  • Set your DSLR to Continuous Shooting (Burst) using a shutter speed fast enough to freeze the action (start with 1/500 sec.)
  • If you want to isolate the cup from the background, use a large aperture (say f/1.8, adjust ISO as required)
