Doors Open Toronto congratulates its photo contest winners
The City of Toronto has announced the five winners for this year’s Doors Open Toronto photography contest, after receiving nearly 1,000 submissions.
The winning photographs are:
Best Exterior – Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute by Henry Peters
Best Interior – Campbell House Museum by Jackman Chiu
Best Architectural Detail – Ontario Legislature Building by Robert Rutkay
Best Door – Design Exchange by Abdool Nazir
People’s Choice Award – Doris McCarthy Fool’s Paradise by Linden Laserna
“The quantity and quality of submissions shows how passionate Torontonians are about the architecture and history of this city,” said Councillor Michael Thompson (Ward 37 Scarborough Centre), Chair of the City’s Economic Development Committee.
The panel of three judges, which included award-winning Toronto Star photojournalist Steve Russell, architect Adam Thom and Panasonic Imaging Produce Specialist Breanne Thomas, selected the winning and runner-up submissions. The jury also selected 10 submissions that were posted on blogTO where nearly 2,000 readers selected their nominee for the People’s Choice Award.

This year’s 13th annual Doors Open Toronto highlighted more than 200 years of history and architectural design in Toronto by showcasing approximately 135 locations throughout the city. Close to 200,000 people attended the weekend event held May 26 and 27.
Produced by the City of Toronto and sponsored by the Toronto Star, Doors Open Toronto has attracted 2.2 million visitors since its launch in 2000. It was the first event of its kind in North America. It is Canada’s largest Doors Open event and one of the largest Doors Open events in the world. Citytv and OMNI Television are the event’s media sponsors.
