Last year, Nikon took center stage with their full-frame mirrorless Nikon Z8 winning the Camera of the Year award. This year, Sony snatches the Camera of the Year award with the Sony A9 III. If you are wondering how come Canon does not figure in this list, it’s because the Canon EOS R1 and EOS R5 II were introduced July 17, 2024 — well past the deadline of May 20, 2024 to be included in the EISA 2024-2025 Awards — and the EOS R1 may not even win their top award next year if, as expected, Nikon and Sony both update the Nikon Z9 and Sony A1, respectively.
Here are the EISA 2024-2025 camera awards:
Camera of the Year: Sony Alpha 9 III
Full-Frame Camera: Nikon Zf
APS-C Camera: Sony Alpha 6700
Advanced Full-Frame Camera: Nikon Z6III
Micro Four Thirds Camera: Panasonic Lumix G9II
Compact Camera: Fujifilm X100VI

Note that the EISA awards do not compare cameras/lenses within categories so as to select the best (irrespective of the year of introduction) products within that category. Instead, the editors select a camera/lens introduced during the year that impressed them, and then they just go ahead and create an award for that product. If you are the only one who introduced a good camera/lens during that time period, then you’re more or less guaranteed to get an EISA (something) award.
