Eye-Fi Mobile X2 First Look @ ConsumerReports.org

The Eye-Fi Mobile X2 Card [QuickPrice Check] allows you to transfer JPEG images directly from camera to your iPad (iPhone and Android) without the need of a router in between. So, if you shoot RAW+JPEG, the JPEG will be immediately available for viewing/review on your iPad.

ConsumerReports.org tries it out: the gist of it is that it works but the Direct Mode feature needs some work.

Makes me wonder how well Apple’s iCloud will work. Do we really want every single picture uploaded to the cloud and downloaded back to every smart device? I can imagine the bandwidth costs involved.

Also, if the iCloud is a runaway success, which it probably will since Apple users really don’t have the choice but to use it, will other electronic items include Wi-Fi as a standard offering? Eye-Fi will do well to partner with a cloud company to copy iCloud so this does not happen.
