EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This Fujifilm FinePix F80EXR Review is based on a production model. All sample images are unretouched, except where specified.

The Fujifilm FinePix F80EXR is a compact ultra zoom that adds HD 720p movie recording to the award-winning F70EXR. It basically keeps all the good qualities of the F70EXR in a slightly thicker body (still pocketable).

Image quality is very good at ISO 100 but low-light capability is not as good as on the F70EXR, ending a long established stranglehold advantage the Fujifilm F Series cameras used to have over their competitors.

The EXR mode works just as previously, allowing you to optimize the image sensor to capture an image according to the scene: High Resolution, Wide Dynamic Range or High Sensitivity & Low Noise. We like the fact that you can just set the camera to “EXR Auto” and it will automatically recognize the scene and switch to the correct image sensor mode.

You can now capture High-Definition (HD) movies 1280×720 pixels (720p) at 24fps with monaural sound and enjoy your pictures in High Definition on a PC or HD ready television (an optional extra HD Card Reader and HDMI cable required).

The Fujifilm F80EXR packs a 10x wide-angle ultra zoom in a pocketable body, and we recommend it as perfect for travel photography and as a carry-anywhere digital camera. It retains generally good low-light capability and now shoots HD 720p movies.
