Medium format flagship. The Fujifilm GFX100 is Fujifilm’s flagship medium-format mirrorless camera. It shoots highly detailed 102MP stills and records 4K/30P (4:2:2 10-bit) video. It is certified weather-resistant and will keep working even when the temperature drops down to a freezing -10°C / 14°F. It has a built-in vertical handgrip which houses two batteries (chargeable thru the USB-C port), allowing up to 800 still shots or 170 min. of continuous 4K movie recording.Fujifilm is trying really hard at positioning the GFX100 as a replacement for a full-frame professional mirrorless camera (since Fujifilm has chosen not to make full-frame mirrorless cameras). So the addition of 5-axis 5.5 stops compensation IBIS (the GFX100 is the first medium format mirrorless camera with IBIS), a much faster and accurate Face/Eye AF, 4K/30P/24P video, and a very rugged body (fully weather-sealed as well as being freeze-proof down to -10°C / 14°F) bring much needed pro features to the medium format. All that, and more, in a body about the same size as a pro DSLR.
Nov 25, 2020: And if 102MP is not high enough resolution for you, you now have the option to switch to Pixel-Shift Multi-Shot mode (firmware Ver3.00 needed) for a whooping 400MP resolution.
It has a 3.2-inch 2.36M-dot LCD monitor that tilts in three directions: 90 degrees upward, 45 degrees downward and 60 degrees to the right (thus allowing for waist-level shooting in portrait mode). In addition, there is also a 2.05-in. monochrome OLED sub monitor on the back which can be configured to display various data previously displayed on the main LCD monitor, thus freeing the main LCD display for framing and composition.
On the top plate, there is a 1.8-in. B/W sub LCD monitor that is configurable to display the main shooting settings such as shutter speed, aperture, ISO and exposure compensation, as well as function icons, remaining number of frames and remaining filming time.
The 5.76M-dot EVF is detachable and provides a bright and large (0.86x equiv.) magnification. An optional EVF Tilting Adapter EVF-TL1 can be attached between the camera body and the EVF to enable vertical tilt (0°-90° / 5 steps) and horizontal rotation (±45°).
The Drive Mode Dial allows you to quickly switch between Still, Multi and Movie modes. Selecting the Still or Movie mode restores the respective settings so that you can start shooting as soon as you switch, without having to adjust settings.
The GFX100 provides tethered support for Capture One by connecting to a computer with a USB cable or by setting up a WiFi connection via a wireless device. The IEEE802.11ac wireless protocol is supported and enables data transfer on a 5GHz network.
The camera can be powered and charged by connecting an AC power adapter to the power plug input connector or by connecting a USB Power Delivery device to the camera’s USB-C port.
The Fujifilm GFX100 is ideal for studio, wedding, portrait, landscape, travel and street photography, though not necessarily for sport and other action photography.
