Bridge superzoom digital camera with powerful 30x wide-angle manual optical zoom that can bring far away action up close or capture wide-angle panoramas. The Fujifilm FinePix HS10 features 10.3MP resolution (1/2.3-in. BSI-CMOS); a 30x ultra wide-angle manual optical zoom (24-720mm equiv.); built-in Sensor-shift image stabilization; and a 7.6-cm (3.0-in.) LCD display screen (230k-dot) in a DSLR-styled body.

The Fujifilm HS10 is positioned as the ultimate bridge camera for those who want the versatility, performance and advanced functionality of a DSLR system without the bulk or expense. It features a great DSLR-type body design with comfortable handling; a new image sensor with high ISO low noise characteristics; one of the longest optical zoom available with a manual zoom ring; high speed shooting at a blazing 10fps at full resolution; and full 1080p HD Movie Capture.

Fujifilm’s high-end digital cameras are well-known for their award-winning low-light performance, setting the standard for high ISO low noise results. Fujifilm now claims that the new BSI-CMOS sensor in the HS10 boasts a 200% increase in sensitivity over a conventional CMOS sensor. This should prove useful not only in low-light situations but also when a fast shutter speed is required at the long focal lengths.

A Triple Image Stabilization functionality combines a mechanically stabilized CMOS sensor with high ISO sensitivities and advanced multi-frame digital stabilization (that combines high and low ISO exposures of the scene) to reduce the blurring effect of both handshake and subject movement. The HS10 also sports the ‘Pro Low Light’ mode which combines several exposures into a single image for ultra-low noise output in low light.

The 30x wide-angle manual optical zoom (24-720mm equiv.) is ideal for capturing sweeping landscapes, wide interior shots, large group shots as well as incredible ultra telephoto shots such as distant sports and wildlife action. This versatile long zoom encompasses nearly every photographic requirement in a single compact unit and means you don’t need to be concerned with buying more lenses. The twist-barrel manual zoom control enables precise adjustments with faster and more accurate zooming, and enables quiet zooming during movie recording.

Performance is one of the hallmark of a DSLR and the FinePix HS10 features 10 frames-per-second of high speed continuous shooting at the maximum 10MP resolution (max. 7 frames). A Best Frame Capture Mode increases your chance of capturing the perfect moment by continuously recording images as soon as the focus is activated, then saves the seven last shots just before the shutter button is pressed.

You can shoot full High-Definition (HD) movie 1920×1080 pixels (1080p) at 30fps with stereo sound. A new Super High Speed Movie function can freeze action and capture breathtaking movies at up to 1000 frames per second (at reduced resolution) for amazing slow-motion movies. A mini HDMI port allows users to display photographs and movies on a high definition television. The manual zoom ring allows you to zoom during movie recording.

The HS10 sports a large tilting 3.0-inch LCD that makes it convenient to take pictures overhead or close to the ground. An eye sensor automatically switches the picture to the EVF when you bring the camera to your eye; when the eye is withdrawn, the image is automatically switched back to the LCD.

For the beginner photographer, the HS10 features Auto, scene modes and SR Auto mode for ‘point and shoot’ results. Intelligent Scene Recognition (SR Auto) detects your scene (Portrait, Backlit Portrait, Night Portrait, Landscape, Macro and Night scene), and optimizes the camera settings dependent on the shooting conditions.

More advanced photographers will appreciate the full complement of manual and semi-automatic shooting modes (PASM), manual zoom ring for fast and precise framing, RAW file format, focal length (35mm equiv.) on the lens barrel, and dedicated control buttons for quick and easy access to key functions such as ISO, white balance, focus and metering.

Motion Panorama Mode captures an ultra-wide panoramic view in a single sweeping shot: as the camera pans across the scene (left/right or up/down), the HS10 captures a series of shots in rapid succession, then stitches them in-camera to produce a seamless panorama picture.

Capture the perfect postcard scene with Motion Remover Mode which captures 5 images of a scene in quick succession and then combines them in-camera to produce a single image (at 2MP resolution) where anything moving in the scene has magically disappeared (in other words, people walking in front of your camera are removed in the final photo).

Motion study photos are now easy with Multi-Motion Capture Mode which captures 5 images of a moving subject in rapid succession and combines them into a single composite image (at 2MP resolution) showing the multiple views of the subject motion.

You’d have to combine multiple cameras and lenses to obtain the versatility and functionality the Fujifilm FinePix HS10 bridge superzoom digital camera provides in one convenient package. It is ideal for beginners and advanced users alike who want DSLR-like handling and performance with one of the longest zoom available with image stabilization. The HS10 is priced at about US $500 (CAD $500).

  • I search all the available sample images taken by this camera, Finepix HS10, pretty disappointed. The image grains very visible couldn’t even compare to the cheapest DSLR which sold at much lower price. I think Fujifilm could do better than that instead rush products out to make money end up hurt the bottom line in long run.

  • Yes, trying to compare DSLR image quality with consumer digital cameras image quality will get most of us disappointed.

To put it bluntly, there is no comparison, so we might as well stop looking and comparing.

DSLR image quality can only come from a DSLR (or the newer mirrorless DSLR). We can get low noise up to ISO 800 for entry-level DSLRs and at higher ISOs for higher-end DSLRs. If that’s what you are looking for, then focus on a DSLR.

The Fujifilm HS10 image quality is very good at ISO 100 and 200, and good at ISO 400. Within this limit, it is an excellent camera with an incredible zoom power and features a photographer can enjoy and take great pictures with.
