EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This Fujifilm FinePix HS10 Review is based on a production model. All sample images are unretouched, except where specified.
The Fujifilm FinePix HS10 is easily the most DSLR-like bridge Super Zoom digital camera. As if to make the point clear, the HS10 makes no excuses by looking like a DSLR and handling like one with its deep grip, manual zoom ring and lots of dedicated control buttons.
In size and weight, the HS10 bucks the current trend toward more compact and lightweight digital SLR cameras, especially the Digital Interchangeable Lens (DIL, or mirrorless DSLR) cameras. Those with large hands will immediately feel comfortable with it. Construction and feel are very good.
The FinePix HS10 is an enjoyable camera to use. It is choke-full of features: 30x optical super zoom starting at an ultra wide 24mm; full exposure flexibility; manual zoom ring and fly-by-wire focus ring; 3.0-in. tilting LCD; 1080p Full HD Movie recording; Super High Speed 1000fps movie for slow motion effect; RAW file format. It comes close to handling and working like a DSLR without being one, and producing good to very good image quality at the low ISOs.
The HS10 is targeted at those who want DSLR functionality without the hassle and expense of investing in additional lenses and other accessories. It is also for DSLR owners who desire a camera that comes close to what they are used to in a DSLR for those times when they choose to leave their DSLR at home.
Beginners and advanced amateur photographers alike will find in the Fujifilm FinePix HS10 a camera with easy-to-use Auto modes as well as full exposure flexibility and customized settings for complete control. It succeeds in being an all-in-one bridge super zoom that beginners can grow into and advanced photographers can enjoy using.
