Some lucky (and creative) aspiring photographers are about to get some serious mentoring help from FUJIFILM North America with the launch of The FUJIFILM 2021 “GFX Challenge” Global Grant Program. This grant program will award five cash grants of $10,000 USD to global award recipients and ten cash grants of $5,000 USD to regional award recipients. Grant recipients will also receive the complimentary use of FUJIFILM GFX System gear and Fujifilm technical assistance during the creative project process through August 2022.
Proposed projects may be submitted as still photography or in a movie format. At the conclusion of the production period in August 2022, the award recipients’ final content will be showcased on the Fujifilm X website.
The Grant program will be open for entry submissions from individuals or groups from November 10, 2021 through January 5, 2022.
The Global Grant Award recipients will receive:
– Complimentary use of a GFX System camera body and two GF lenses for the duration of their project
– Mentoring and technical assistance from Fujifilm technicians / product experts

Grants offered up to $10,000 USD to Bring Your Project to Life
Mississauga, ON, November 10, 2021 – FUJIFILM North America Corporation is pleased to announce the launch of The FUJIFILM 2021 “GFX Challenge” Global Grant Program, a global grant program that will award five cash grants of $10,000 USD to global award recipients and ten cash grants of $5,000 USD to regional award recipients, to help aspiring photographers and filmmakers bring their image and video projects to life. Grant recipients will also receive the complimentary use of FUJIFILM GFX System gear and Fujifilm technical assistance during the creative project process through August 2022. Total value of all grant awards offered in connection with the Global Grant Program is USD $104,500.
The FUJIFILM 2021 “GFX Challenge” Global Grant Program is designed to nurture and develop the skills of emerging/promising content creators, giving them the opportunity to create content on topics that have significant meaning to them, while gaining experience using FUJIFILM GFX System gear. Proposed projects may be submitted as still photography or in a movie format. At the conclusion of the production period in August 2022, the award recipients’ final content will be showcased on the Fujifilm X website.
“An overarching goal of The FUJIFILM 2021 “GFX Challenge” Global Grant Program is to empower photographers and filmmakers around the world to create new and compelling imaging projects that tell their stories,” said Victor Ha, senior director of marketing and product management for FUJIFILM North America Corporation, Electronic Imaging Division. “Storytelling is an intrinsic part of Fujifilm’s DNA, so empowering creators to do what they do best – creating – is especially important to us.”
The Grant program will be open for entry submissions from individuals or groups from November 10, 2021 through January 5, 2022. In the first round, Fujifilm’s regional judging teams will review all submissions against five specified criteria and select a total of 10 proposals from each of five specified geographical regions – The Americas, Europe, Asia, China and Japan/Middle East – for a total of 50 selections. In the second round, selected candidates will be interviewed (either via video-teleconference, or in writing, as determined by the applicable Fujifilm region) by Fujifilm’s judges regarding the specifics of the project they would like to execute. Three finalists from each region, for a total of 15, will be selected to proceed to the final round, during which Fujifilm’s global judging team in Tokyo, Japan will review each finalist’s entry and select the five global award recipients, with the remaining 10 finalists receiving regional grant awards. The production period for the grant awardees ends and the production of all projects must be completed by August 30, 2022.

Over the course of the three evaluation rounds, selections will be made based on the following criteria:
- Relevance of the project to the Program Objectives, and applicant’s adherence to the Submission Criteria
- Appropriateness of the project story to be told using GFX System products
- Creativity and uniqueness of the described project
- Achievability/Execution (feasibility of the project, overall budget size, likelihood the project will be able to be completed as outlined and need for community awareness the project addresses)
- Applicant background and photography / videography experience and abilities
