Record-high nine Fujifilm imaging products win the Red Dot Design Award

FUJIFILM Corporation (President: Shigehiro Nakajima) is proud to announce that a record-high nine of its products, including the premium “FUJIFILM X-Pro2” mirrorless camera and the “Instax Mini 70” instant film camera, have won the Red Dot Design Award 2016, a product design award program organized by Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen based in Essen, Germany.

The Red Dot Design Award is an international product design award launched in 1955. It examines products released within the past two years, and they are judged in nine criteria including degree of innovation, functionality, ergonomics, ecological compatiblity and durability. It is among the world’s most prestigious design award, along with the “iF design award” in Germany and the “International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA)” in the United States of America.

Encouraged by the selection of numerous Fujifilm products for the Red Dot Design Award out of a large number of entries from across the world, the company will continue to strive for developing excellent products.

■ Premium mirrorless camera “FUJIFILM X-Pro2”

The X-Pro2 is a premium mirrorless camera with classic design that has evolved from its predecessor X-Pro1’s full magnesium alloy chassis and milled aluminum dials, combined with additional features for enhanced ease of use. The use of the newly developed APS-C sensor “X-TransTM CMOS III”*1 (24.3MP, with no optical low pass filter) and ultra-fast “X-Processor Pro” image processing engine delivers the highest image quality and mobility in the history of the X series. The world’s first Advanced Hybrid Multi Viewfinder allows users to switch between the optical and electronic viewfinders to suit shooting conditions. The chassis design is perfected with operability in mind, placing the shutter speed dial featuring the integrated ISO selector on the top plate, and positioning the Focus Lever for directly adjusting the focus point on the back panel.

■ Premium compact digital camera “FUJIFILM X70”

The X70 is a premium compact camera featuring the APS-C sensor “X-TransTM CMOS II” and the newly-developed ultra-thin 18.5mm*2 wide-angle FUJINON lens on a compact metal chassis body weighing just 340g*3. Despite its pocket-sized compact body, it delivers the image quality Fujifilm has become known for. The lens barrel features milled metal aperture ring and control ring to enable full-fledged manual shooting. Other features include the 180-degree tilting touchscreen LCD monitor and operation dials. The camera is capable of high-speed AF of up to 0.1 second*4. A wide range of dedicated optional accessories is also available.

■ Mirrorless digital camera “FUJIFILM X-T10”

The X-T10 is a compact and lightweight mirrorless digital camera featuring the AF system that excels in tracking a moving subject, the world’s shortest display time lag of just 0.005 sec*5, the large electronic viewfinder with the magnification ratio of 0.62x*6 and a built-in flash. It brings back the joy of “shooting through the viewfinder” in a variety of scenes both indoors and outdoors. The use of the shutter speed dial, exposure compensation dial and aperture ring on the lens barrel enables intuitive operations in the Manual mode, synonymous to the X Series. The addition of the Auto Mode Switch lever, which switches the camera into the Auto Mode with a quick lever operation, makes this model a “compact yet fully-featured” camera that caters to the needs of a wide range of users from beginners to professional photographers.

The X-A2 is an entry-level mirrorless digital camera that combines the APS-C CMOS sensor, high-performance FUJINON lens and unique image processing engine into its compact and lightweight body to achieve premium image quality and excellent operability. The kit lens allows close-up shots with the minimum working distance of just 15cm*7, perfect for close-up food photography. When its new 175-degree tilting LCD monitor is rotated, the AF mode automatically switches to the Eye Detection AF so that users can capture a high-quality self portrait with a sharp focus on the eyes. The Wi-Fi capability enables quick and easy transfer of image files to a smartphone or tablet device. With all the dials and operation buttons positioned on the right side of the body, users can make a quick operation with just one hand for exceptional operability.

The diecast magnesium body makes it rigid yet lightweight at the same time. The APS-C “X-TransTM CMOS II” sensor (16.3MP with no optical low pass filter) is combined with the “EXR Processor II” image processing engine to deliver premium image quality. In addition to its new AF system, the camera boasts the world’s shortest display time lag of just 0.005 sec*5 and the large electronic viewfinder with the magnification ratio of 0.62x*6 for frustration-free photography with an electronic viewfinder. The intuitive operability with the use of dials, made of select materials and textures, and the mobility made possible with the lightweight body, provide users with photographic pleasure, catering to the needs of photography enthusiasts.

■ Interchangeable digital camera lenses “FUJINON LENS XF16-55mm F2.8 R LM WR / XF50-140mm F2.8 R LM OIS WR”

These two large-diameter X-mount lenses for Fujifilm’s X Series of interchangeable-lens cameras cover the focal lengths from 16mm to 140mm with the constant wide-open aperture of f2.8. Their advanced optical design has minimized various types of optical aberrations to deliver edge-to-edge sharpness across the zoom range and beautiful bokeh at the same time. Their weather- and dust-resistant design that withstands low temperature is coupled with latest technologies such as the linear motor that enables fast, accurate and quiet AF, class-leading powerful image stabilization performance and Nano GI (Gradient Index) coating*8. The aperture ring with the aperture setting gauge on the lens barrel allows users to make intuitive operation for stress-free photography.

The XP90 is a rugged construction digital camera that complies with the IP68 waterproof and dustproof protection standards*9 and offers four ruggedness features, i.e. “waterproof to 15m,” “withstanding a drop from up to 1.75m,” “operating temperature as low as -10°C” and “dust-proof.” It is equipped with the 5x optical zoom lens, optical image stabilization function and 16.4MP backlit CMOS sensor. Its wide rubber grip gives an enhanced hold of the camera outdoors, while the stylish flash-surface design of the camera body makes it resist dirt and easy to clean. The camera also features a 3-inch large LCD monitor on the back. The time-lapse function allows users to create a time-lapse video of a series of frames shot at a certain interval, while the Wi-Fi function enables smooth synching with smartphones.
