QUICKFACT SHEET
H eart-stoppingly beautiful. Though “beauty is in the eyes of the beholder,” the Fujifilm X100F (and X100T, X100S and X100 before it) is one of those cameras that can literally stop you in your track. It’s a well-implemented retro look that other camera brands have tried to — but have not quite succeeded in — achieving: it’s the viewfinder, the viewfinder selector lever, the milled metallic dials and shutter, all in the correct dimensions and placement in a distinctive compact design. The Fujifilm X100F is not an interchangeable lens camera, i.e. not “mirrorless,” and will therefore not accept interchangeable lenses. Rather, it is what we call a (large-sensor fixed-lens) Premium Compact camera. It has a large APS-C sensor for outstanding image quality rivaling DSLRs and a fixed focal-length wide-angle 35mm (equiv) lens with a fast F2 aperture.
Like the more expensive mirrorless X-Pro2 and X-T2, the Fujifilm X100F also has dedicated controls: shutter speed dial, aperture ring, manual focus ring, exposure compensation dial, and now a “lift and turn” ISO dial. For photographers who love the retro look & feel, these controls give them an intuitive way to directly control exposure settings.
What’s New (compared to the X100T)
- A higher resolution sensor (from 16.3-MP to 24.3-MP).
- 325 AF points includes 91 phase-detection focusing points. Boasts a 0.08 sec. AF speed.
- Focus Lever for quick AF point placement.
- Exposure Compensation Dial now sports a C position for +/- 5 stops (using the Front Command Dial).
- Faster Continuous Shooting: 8 fps (60 JPEG/25 RAW).
- New ACROS Film Simulation mode.
- An easier-to-use menu.
The X100F is styled like a rangefinder camera of old, its defining feature being its unique hybrid optical/electronic viewfinder. Inside the retro body is Fujifilm’s latest generation 24.3MP X-Trans CMOS III APS-C sensor. The sensor features hybrid AF with 325 focusing points (91 of which are phase detection) and improved focus acquisition speed and accuracy.
Since the X100F uses the same sensor and image processor as in the X-Pro2, we expect the image quality to be as outstanding. The sensitivity ranges from ISO 200 to 12800 (extended ISO 100, 25600 and 51200) and should exhibit similar excellent low noise characteristics.

The Fujifilm X100F records Full HD video (1920×1080) @ 60, 50, 30, 25 or 24p fps. You can adjust aperture, shutter speed and exposure compensation settings while recording. Film Simulation effects can also be applied to video for versatile and artistic video output. The beautiful ACROS Film Simulation mode is available.
The LCD remains at 3″ 1.04M-dot resolution. The control buttons at the back are now all on the right of the LCD display, allowing easier one-handed operation. The Focus Lever (“AF joystick”) is a nice addition. You may not miss Touch AF since the Focus Lever is very quick and precise in use.
The X100 has a leaf shutter, allowing faster flash sync speed and near-silent operation. A built-in 3-stop ND filter cuts down the amount of light to 1/8 and is useful when shooting with the aperture wide open in bright light (for bokeh effects) or when opting to use a slow shutter speed (for smooth moving water effect).
Though the X100F is a fixed-lens camera, there are two conversion lenses available: the optional WCL-X100 II Wide Conversion Lens optically changes the focal length to 28mm (equiv), while the TCL-X100 II Tele Conversion Lens optically changes the focal length to 50mm (equiv). Thanks to the built-in magnet and sensor, the X100F automatically recognizes which conversion lens is attached; no need to delve into the Menu to select the right conversion lens or to change the viewfinder frame.
The Fujifilm X100F is an ideal camera for discreete street photography or for everyday family shooting. Whether you buy with your heart or your head, you won’t go wrong.
