What does it take to build a camera for “professional use,” and all that phrase entails? Fujifilm is positioning the new X-H1 mirrorless as such and, in a series of articles on the development of the X-H1, takes us behind the scenes to share the challenges that its product planners, designers and engineers faced — and solved — in the development of the X-H1.
The mount of the X-H1 is thickened and reinforced with ribs to provide additional support for heavier lenses. Image courtesy of Fujifilm.
In Part 1, they explore how they made the X-H1 more robust while still keeping it portable, lightweight and ergonomic and how they strengthened the mount so it can handle heavier telephoto lenses, such as the forthcoming XF200MMF2 R LM OIS WR (300mm equivalent).

The shutter unit in the X-H1 is suspended with five springs so they act as a shock absorber when the shutter is pressed. Image courtesy of Fujifilm.
In Part 2, they discuss the installation of the first Image Stabilization Unit (IBIS) on the X Mount, how to suppress shutter shock (itself a source of vibrations inside the camera), and the design of a heat sink that allows the X-H1 to film 4K video 1.5x longer than the X-T2 can.
