Gannett (USA TODAY) Selects Sony as Exclusive Imaging Product Provider for Their Photographers and Journalists

Sony seems to have the momentum as far as being the mirrorless camera system of choice for news agencies. Last July, the Associated Press switched to exclusively use Sony full-frame mirrorless cameras; this August, Britain’s PA Media Group also made Sony its preferred equipment of choice; and, today, Gannett Co, Inc., operator of USA TODAY NETWORK spanning more than 250 national and local media outlets including USA TODAY, has announced that Sony will become the imaging products provider for Gannett’s photographers and video journalists. Gannett features more than 500 professionals covering more than 10,000 events annually, producing nearly two million edited images and thousands of original videos each year. Highlighted products are the Sony Alpha 1, the FX Cinema Line cameras and G Master™ line of interchangeable lenses.

Hopefully, other mirrorless camera manufacturers are getting the unspoken message: Besides being top notch, mirrorless cameras used by professionals must also be compact and lightweight. Pros are not willing to put up with large, heavy and cumbersome cameras anymore.
