Yahoo! introduced today an updated Yahoo! Weather Android app that features users photos. You can submit your photos to the Yahoo! Flickr: The Project Weather Pool for an opportunity to be featured on the app.
Yahoo! Weather for Android is available globally:
- The old version of Yahoo! Weather for Android, a result of an internal Hack Day project, displayed 4-day forecast, current temperature and present-day high and lows. The updated app displays 5 or 10-day forecast and 24-hour weather predictions.
- Additionally, the updated app has precipitation, wind and pressure, moon phases, UV patterns, sunrise and sunset times and an interactive map.
- You can add the Weather Android widget on your phone’s home screen so it’s easy to check the weather when your phone is on lock.
- Sign-in via Yahoo! to receive suggested cities based off your interests and friends.
I installed it on my Android smartphone and it’s beautiful. It knows where you are and displays the weather at your current location. It will also try to display a photo at your location (but not sure if it goes so far as to try to depict the current weather condition). You can specify the temperature to be displayed in °F or °C and specify that you want it to retrive photos when connected on Wi-Fi only.
You can search for weather conditions around the world. Swipe up to reveal a 5d/10d forecast and info about the wind, rain, humidity and even UV index. Photographers would also appreciate the info on sunrise and sunset times.

TIP: To increase your rate of success of being featured on their app, consider how your (weather-related) photos will look in both the portrait and landscape modes. A square photo (minimum 1024 px x 1024 px) may be best. And don’t forget to geotag them by city and country since Yahoo! wants to display a photo for a person’s current location.
