Giant Asteroid To Offer Spectacular Photography Opportunity

Asteroid 2005 YU55
Asteroid 2005 YU55

Asteroid 2005 YU55 is about the size of the CN Tower and is expected to pass close to Earth, about 325,000 kilometres away (0.85 lunar distances), in fact between Earth and the Moon. YU55 was only recently discovered in December 2005. At about 400 metres (1,300 feet) wide, this C-type asteroid will be visible Tuesday Nov. 8, 2011 with the best time to see it being later that day and into Wednesday Nov. 9. Scientists will have their cameras ready to catch a glimpse of this asteroid, and I bet a few astrophotographers will also mark these days down on their calendar.
