GigaPan Robotic Photography

How about some Robotic Gigapixel Close-Up Photography? Well, let me warn you right off the bat that there’s not much action going on here and I’m not sure why this presentation even warrants a video. And I’m not even sure why I’m putting this up except that perhaps one of you may illuminate us on the purpose of this camera contraption.

SIGGRAPH 2010: GigaPan Robotic Photography from Core77 on Vimeo.

The P&S camera used in the second part of the video seems to be a Canon and I like the robotic “finger” that presses the shutter release button. You’d think they’d use a camera with an intervalometer instead of creating this contraption? But then, they are geeks.
