If you have noticed the beautiful picture featured on the PDN Photo Annual 2011 Photo Contest post below, it is by David Drebin and featured in his ” Room with a View” series.
There’s an interesting anecdote behind this picture. Apparently, the Standard Hotel in New York, where this picture was shot (and where room prices range from $295 to $1,800 a night), was still under construction and the glass window panes you see in the picture had not been installed yet. The picture was shot on the 12th floor so you can imagine that it would take a model who was not too afraid of heights to pose for that picture, such as “blond, around 30, not afraid of heights. And preferably without suicidal tendencies.” Oh, one more thing, the background was shot separately and then photoshopped in.
I told you all of this to tell you that. Scoot over to professional photographer Ted Sabarese’s site, “Guess The Lighting” where he takes a stab at guessing how this shot was lighted and to read interesting anecdotes about the shots. There are lots of other “brillant” examples (pun intended).
