How to Launch a Camera Into Space for $150

From jlee08

It’s every boy’s dream to launch a satellite into space, and if you can attah a camera to it and film the ascension, all the better! This is exactly what Justin Lee and Oliver Yeh did by using a helium balloon tied to a cooler into which they put a digital camera, its firmware hacked so that it took pictures at 5 second intervals. Then they launched the rig 90,000 feet into the stratosphere when the balloon popped and the rig fell back to the ground to be recovered.

You’ll notice that it takes longer to go up than to fall back to the ground.
