Spiral galaxies are normally flat, but scientists are learning that the laws of science as we observe on Earth do not always apply out in space or on a grand scale. A case in point is spiral galaxy ESO 510-13 that seems to have gotten bent out of shape — warped. In fact, our own Milky Way Galaxy is thought to have a small warp. The picture above has been digitally sharpened. ESO 510-13 is about 150 million light years away and about 100,000 light years across.
