Intel Security’s New Master Password Reset Feature on True Key App: Users Can Now Securely Recover Their Forgotten Master Password Using Their Other Unique Factors

Sign in to Intel Security’s True Key™ with your face or fingerprint.

The following video presents True Key by Intel Security – Log in without passwords:

Today, Intel Security unveiled a new feature to True Key called Master Password Reset that allows users to reset their Master Password in the event it is forgotten. Until now, if a user forgot their Master Password there was no way to reset it.

With the new Master Password Reset feature on True Key, users can securely recover their master password using their other unique factors, like their face or fingerprint or via a second device. With the help of Master Password Reset, users can reset their forgotten Master Password by verifying other unique factors that are customized by them. With other password managers, users often forget their master password and then lose access to all their data and tasks online. With True Key, users can finally get out of the business of remembering passwords.

Intel Security Unveils Master Password Reset for True Key Password Manager

One of the things that makes the True Key app so great is that users can choose how they sign in to get access to all their passwords and personal data. The True Key app lets you choose from unique-to-you factors like your face, a fingerprint or a master password. (True Key also always checks that the user is also on a known device for an extra layer of invisible security.) While users can choose to add a fingerprint or face to their profile, the Master Password is required as it is used to encrypt and decrypt all their information on a new device. Unfortunately many people forget their master password, and since we never see or store it for security, there has been nothing we can do to help people get into their account. That is, until now!

In the latest release of the True Key app, users can now securely reset a forgotten Master Password on their own. This feature takes advantage of the other factors that a user has stored in their profile – a face, email, and a 2nd device. Upon using these other factors to verify it’s you from one of your trusted devices, True Key enables the user to reset their master password. Intel Security believes in a password-free future, so developing a way to help users recover all their data without a password seemed like a good place to start.

In the latest release of the True Key app, users can now reset a forgotten Master Password on their own. This feature works behind-the-scenes using a patent-pending solution that allows them to log-in to their profile by verifying it’s them with other unique factors. Intel Security believes in a password-free future, so developing a way for consumers to log-in without relying on a single password seemed like a great place to start.

And, here is how:

“Forgot your Master Password?”

Creating a Strong Master Password
To create a strong Master Password, we recommend using numbers, symbols and a mix of lower and uppercase letters. Even better, use a combination of all of the above to create a memorable passphrase, like “iL0vePUPPIES&allofthethingsfloral!” This is much stronger than the most commonly used password of 2015 (password123) or the name of your favourite pet.

Rest assured that the True Key app will recognize users and let them back into their profile without a common password. Every profile is different based on the factors enrolled, and we will continue to bring more factors and features as we move forward.
