LEICA CAMERA ANNOUNCES NEW LENS AND FIRMWARE FOR S-SYSTEM

High-performance Wide-Angle Lens for S-System:
LEICA ELMARIT-S 45 mm f/2.8 ASPH
Leica Camera presents the Leica Elmarit-S 45 mm f/2.8 ASPH, a new wide-angle lens for the Leica S-System. With this addition, there are a total of nine lenses for the Leica S Medium-format System, with focal lengths ranging from 24 mm to 180 mm that assure uncompromising imaging quality in all photographic situations. Like all Leica S-Lenses, the Leica Elmarit-S 45 mm f/2.8 ASPH lens fulfils the demands that professional photographers place on a camera system on a daily basis. It is rugged, reliable and built to last a lifetime, even in frequent use.
The wide-angle quality of the Leica Elmarit-S 45 mm f/2.8 ASPH lens, as well as its natural reproduction of perspectives, makes it ideal not only for landscapes and architectural photography but also for studio use. It offers maximum contrast rendition, high resolution, extremely low distortion and high-contrast images, even when shooting a backlit subject. The lens features an extremely robust bayonet mount and is fully sealed against dust and water spray, ensuring absolute dependability even under the harshest shooting conditions.

The lens is the result of an elaborate optical design and construction: A total of twelve lenses are employed to achieve its exceptional optical performance, three lenses made from glass with anomalous partial dispersion minimise chromatic aberrations, and two further lenses are manufactured from glass with particularly low dispersion. An additional lens element with an aspherical surface minimizes monochromatic aberrations. Rear-group focusing guarantees consistently outstanding imaging properties from infinity to its closest focusing distance.
The Leica Elmarit-S 45 mm f/2.8 ASPH is now available for purchase from selected Leica dealers, Users can choose from versions with and without an integrated central shutter.

Firmware for S-System:
FW 2.3.0.0 FOR THE LEICA S AND FW 1.3.0.0 FOR THE LEICA S2
Leica is also offering a firmware update together with this new lens: FW 2.3.0.0 for the Leica S and FW 1.3.0.0 for the Leica S2. The update ensures optimum functionality of this lens when used on Leica S, S2 and S2-P cameras. Registered S customers can now download the files containing the firmware and an installation guide from the owners’ area at: https://owners.leica-camera.com. Users who would like to bring their camera up to date can now download the update from the Leica owners’ area and take advantage of the improvements.
Both firmware updates relate to the use of the new Leica Elmarit-S 45 mm f/2.8 ASPH. (CS) lens and ensure optimum functionality when the lens is mounted on Leica S, S2 and S2-P cameras.
The Leica S Firmware Update FW 2.3.0.0 also contains further optimisations. These include improvements in tethered shooting for DNG-compressed file output and a flash triggering signal that is passed to the sync socket at all shutter speeds. In addition, user-settings for bracketing sequences and the self-timer can now be stored in user profiles and remain active after restarting the camera. The color temperature of the monitor screen has also been optimised and Korean has been added to the language options. Errors registered by users, such as the focusing behaviour of the Leica Vario-Elmar-S 30–90 mm f/3.5–5.6 ASPH. and in user profiles, have been corrected.
