We’ve all seen graphic pictures of the effect of the tsunami that struck Sendai and neighboring regions. The NOAA Center for Tsunami Research recreated a model of how the tsunami propagated. In 8 hours, the tsunami reached Hawaii; after 9.5 hours, it reached the west coast of the US; after 22 hours, it had propagated across the entire Pacific Ocean.
