For U.S. Contest Entries:
- Contest is open only to legal residents of the United States who are between the ages of 6 and 14 on October 15, 2014.
- You must be the photographer.
- All Mail-in Entries must be postmarked by October 15, 2014, and received by October 22, 2014.
- Online Entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Daylight Time) on October 15, 2014.
- Entries become the property of Sponsor and will not be returned or acknowledged.
- The categories for entries are:
- Amazing Animals (photos of pets, zoo animals, or wild animals),
- Dare to Explore (photos of outdoor scenery),
- Weird But True (photos that capture something odd or funny), and
- Wild Vacation (photos taken during vacation travels, including pictures of vacation destination landmarks, monuments, celebrations or festivals, food, etc.).
- Each entrant may submit entries in any Category he/she wishes and may submit entries to different Categories at different times during the Entry Period, but no entrant may submit in total more than one (1) entry per Category.
- GRAND PRIZE:
- One (1) Grand Prize Winner will be selected from among the four First Place Winners based on the Judging Criteria.

National Geographic Kids Magazine Launches 2014 International Photography Contest
WASHINGTON (Aug. 1, 2014)—Young photographers are invited to take part in the 2014 National Geographic International Photography Contest for Kids, with the U.S. grand-prize winner receiving a National Geographic Costa Rica Family Adventure. Open to children ages 6 to 14, the contest is conducted in partnership with the U.S. edition of National Geographic Kids magazine and 11 local-language editions in Bulgaria, China, Egypt, Germany, Indonesia, Israel, the Netherlands, Slovenia, South Africa, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
Each country will select winners in four categories: Amazing Animals (photos of pets, zoo animals or wild animals); Dare to Explore (photos of outdoor scenery); Weird But True (photos that capture something odd or funny); and Wild Vacation (photos taken during vacation travels). In the U.S. contest, four first-place winners and four second-place winners will receive digital cameras, memory cards and a selection of National Geographic Kids books. First-place winners will also compete for the U.S. grand prize, which is a seven-day National Geographic Costa Rica Family Adventure for two. Their photos will go on to compete against first-place winning entries from international editions.
U.S. contestants may enter now through Oct. 15, 2014, by submitting one photo in any or all four categories. Photos may be black-and-white or color and shot with a digital camera or with conventional film. Entries may be submitted online at kids.nationalgeographic.com/photo-contest/ or via mail.
