Feature upgrades and added capabilities will make experts of many types of users

Mississauga, ON – November 3, 2010 – Nikon Canada today announced its exciting lineup of featured models for the 2010 holiday season, setting out a wide selection of new and enhanced digital SLRs and COOLPIX cameras ready to be placed under your tree or hung by the chimney with care.

“With the advances in camera technology over the last year, Nikon Canada is pleased to introduce some of its most sophisticated, user-friendly models to date, in time for budding photographers and enthusiasts to experience this holiday season,” said Gregory Flasch, National Advertising and Communications Manager, Nikon Canada. “Our digital SLRs and COOLPIX cameras have redefined the success of their predecessors with new and enhanced features, and continue to complement the range of Nikon cameras.”

Nikon Digital SLR Cameras

A world of possibilities has opened up with the advancements to Nikon’s latest digital SLR cameras. Originally, the D-series cameras were primarily geared toward the photography enthusiasts of the world.

Now, more amateur users are able to enter the digital SLR category with the help of new, more intuitive features and operation. One major new feature is the addition of HD video capabilities, which allow the aspiring photographer to become the aspiring filmmaker. In addition, many of the familiar, innovative functions from previous models have been upgraded and improved. For example, the Enhanced Guide Mode is so intuitive it’s like having a photography tutor inside your camera.

Nikon D7000 – The perfect gift for the professional photographer
For the photographer looking for excellent all-around performance when it counts the most, Nikon introduces the D7000. Its construction is a testament to function and durability, all the while maintaining exceptional feature control and delivering new attributes in a compact form. The D7000 features a 16.2-megapixel CMOS sensor with low-light capabilities, never before seen in a DX-format camera. To take full advantage of this, the D7000 is equipped with the new EXPEED 2™ image-processing engine, coupled with a new 39-point autofocus (AF) system. The revolutionary 2,016 pixel RGB 3D Matrix Metering System delivers outstanding image quality in a wide range of shooting conditions, from family shots at the holiday dining room table to the late night caroling session on your street.

Nikon has also enhanced some of its exclusive technologies included on the D7000. The Scene Recognition System, with its 30,000 image database, remains essential for analyzing and optimizing exposure, autofocus and white balance. Equipped with an enhanced RGB sensor and the 3D Matrix Metering System II it offers improved control of metering and white balance. Additionally, the 50-millisecond shutter response, combined with rapid AF and six frames-per-second (fps) continuous shooting, captures up to 100 images*

For the first time, users are able to shoot in D-movie Mode usin g Liveview with full-time AF for up to 20 minutes of full 1080p HD cinema-like video at 24 fps, HD shooting in 720p at either 24 or 30 fps, or web-friendly 640×424 at 30 fps. Additional tools are included on the D7000 so users can edit and trim video in-camera, without the use of a computer. Finally, CEC compatibility through the HDMI output allows playback directly to any (compatible) HDTV for immediate viewing.

The D7000 features two SD memory card slots (supporting SD, SDHC and SDXC); allowing for dual storage capacity, in-camera back-up, or simultaneous recording in RAW and JPEG; as well as a selection of onboard photo-editing tools for touching up RAW images directly on the camera.

Using the 420-pixel RGB colour sensor and 3D Matrix Metering System II (with over 30,000 images in its database) the D3100 can employ its Scene Recognition System, which will auto-adjust the settings of the camera for optimal performance. The 10.1-megapixel COOLPIX P7000 combines high performance, detailed manual control and enhanced shooting utilities into a streamlined body built for photography enthusiasts constantly on the go. The construction of the P7000 is a testament to Nikon’s standards for high-quality. Nikon’s new EXP EED C2™ image processing engine is on board to capture stunning colour and sharpness, and distance capabilities have been increased by coupling a large 1/1.7 CCD sensor with a 7.1x Wide Angle Optical Zoom-NIKKOR ED Glass Lens.

The ISO range tops at 6400 and can be expanded to ISO 12,800 with Low-Noise Night Mode engaged. Between this feature, the Noise Reduction Filter and Nikon’s 5-Way VR Image stabilization system, the P7000 captures sharper, crisper images while minimizing blur caused by camera shake.

Nikon’s Zoom Memory function allows the P7000’s 28-200mm (35mm
equivalent) lens to simulate a prime lens for easily shooting at the user’s preferred range. Other details include the capability to shoot NRW (RAW) files for compatibility on a Mac or PC. The P7000 also boasts a macro mode able to shoot as close as 2 cm.

When capturing stills is not enough, Nikon has also equipped the P7000 with video capabilities able to record HD video at 720p shooting at 24 fps while allowing full function of the Optical Zoom and Autofocus controls. To enhance video recording, an external stereo microphone can be attached (sold separately). The microphone or a Nikon Speedlight, such as the compact and affordable SB400 is mountable on the P7000’s hot shoe.

Nikon COOLPIX S8100 – In the snow or under twinkling lights, get the best picture every time
