Nikon Canada Becomes Official Camera Partner of Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival 2011

Partnership with Nikon enables CONTACT to launch first National Billboard Project

Mississauga, ON, April 7, 2011 – As part of its commitment to promoting creativity and personal expression through photography, Nikon Canada is delighted to announce its involvement in this year’s Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival. CONTACT, the world’s largest photography festival, is an annual month-long event with over 1,000 local, national and international artists, exhibiting at more than 200 venues across the Greater Toronto Area. Beginning May 1, 2011, CONTACT will celebrate and foster an appreciation of the art and profession of photography with Nikon Canada as its official camera partner.

“At Nikon Canada, we echo the belief that photography is an enriching and vital art form,” said Gregory Flasch, Nikon Canada’s National Advertising and Communications Manager. “We’re proud and excited to be involved with CONTACT 2011, a festival that appeals to Canadians and tourists from all over the world, including professional photographers, art enthusiasts and amateur shooters alike.”

Festival goers are encouraged to take part in workshops and seminars hosted by industry experts including Nikon Canada’s ambassador, Kristian Bogner. At age 34, Bogner is one of the youngest photographers in his class. A two-time Photographer of the Year for Canada* and winner of numerous national and international awards for best fashion, best sports, best illustrative and best scenic images, Bogner has had many of his works selected to be part of the prestigious Canadian National Archives. He inspires others by combining the latest in technology with generations of experience and creativity. At the event, Bogner will provide more insights into his celebrated career and share the techniques he has developed to achieve award-winning results.

This year, Nikon Canada and CONTACT will work with Pattison Outdoor to take the public installation billboard project across the country. Artists will have the opportunity to get creative, replacing billboard advertisements with photographs. This is the first time in the festival’s 15-year history that the project will expand outside of Toronto, to other major Canadian cities: Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, Ottawa and Halifax.

“Thanks to Nikon Canada and Pattison Outdoor, our public installations will have a national profile,” said Darcy Killeen, Executive Director of Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival. “CONTACT is committed to advancing knowledge, creativity and innovation in photography, and we are delighted to reach a new and broader audience”.
