Nikon Canada Presents the Snap & Share Photo Contest for Ontario, Canada: Submit Your “Wonders of Toronto Winter” Photos Before 11:59 p.m. on February 19, 2016

This video is the first in a series about winter photography, from Nikon Canada Ambassador Kristian Bogner. In this video, Kristian shares tips to find the perfect photo location and explains how to use in-camera settings to create images that pop with vivid colour.

The City of Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation’s Snap & Share photo contest, presented by Nikon Canada, runs from December 14, 2015 to February 18, 2016, and invites the public to snap and share photos in six categories for a chance to win prizes. Kristian is one of the judges of the contest, alongside fellow Nikon Canada Ambassador, Michelle Valberg, and Barenaked Ladies lead singer and avid photographer, Ed Robertson.

The City of Toronto in Ontario, Canada, invites you to enter the Snap & Share photo contest, presented by Nikon Canada, to highlight the wonders of winter in Toronto’s parks, ravines and recreation spaces.

This winter, take your camera everywhere you go because your next shot could be a winner! From now until February 19, 2016 snap photos taken in Toronto parks, ravines and recreation centres and submit them for a chance to win!

All submissions must be original photos taken in the City of Toronto during the contest period, and must fall into one of the following categories:

  1. Colour in Winter
  2. Family Fun
  3. Walking in Winter Wonderland
  4. The Great Indoors
  5. Winter Wildlife
  6. Toronto Walking Tour – exclusively for participants of Nikon Canada’s photography walk hosted by contest judge Kristian Bogner in January. Kristian will guide photographers throughout High Park and provide expert tips on how to take great winter photography. Date and time to be announced. Stay tuned! The walk will take place in High Park on February 6 and be led by Nikon Canada Ambassador and professional photographer Kristian Bogner.

Judging Process and Criteria

Three panels of judges composed of City employees in two cases, and one composed of non-City employees, will be selected by the City, in its sole discretion.

The final panel of judges will determine the contest winner and category winners.

….Contestants retain copyright and any other intellectual property rights in their submitted photos. However, by entering the contest, all entrants are agreeing to give a royalty-free, world-wide, perpetual, non-exclusive license to the City, and anyone it authorizes, to display, distribute, modify, crop reproduce, and create derivative works, of the entrants in any media now existing or subsequently developed including the Internet, for any City purpose including, but not limited to, advertising and promotion. Such license is provided without any fee or other form of compensation, or any requirement for additional approvals. Photo credit will be given where possible.

The entrant waives all moral rights in any of his or her winning entries….

The personal information on this form together with the corresponding photographs, videotapes, audiotapes, films, and/or interviews is collected under the authority of the City of Toronto Act, S.O. 2006, Chapter 11, Schedule A, s. 136 (c). Should a contestant’s entry reach the expert round of judging the contestant will be required to provide additional information (address and phone number) for prizing purposes.

Photography contest focuses on the wonders of winter in Toronto

The City of Toronto’s Parks, Forestry and Recreation division is holding a Snap & Share photo contest, presented by Nikon Canada, to highlight the wonders of winter in Toronto’s parks, ravines and recreation spaces.

From today until February 19, the public is invited to snap and share photos in six categories for a chance to win great prizes. Contest categories include: Colour in Winter, Family Fun, Walking in a Winter Wonderland, the Great Indoors, Winter Wildlife, and Toronto Walking Tour. The last category will be exclusive to participants of a photography walking tour, which will take place in High Park on February 6 and be led by Nikon Canada Ambassador and professional photographer Kristian Bogner. The contest will also include a People’s Choice component.

The expert panel of judges for the contest includes Bogner; Ed Robertson, lead singer of Barenaked Ladies and an avid photographer; and Michelle Valberg, a wildlife and adventure photographer and Nikon Ambassador.

Entries will be evaluated based on content, composition, impact and technical criteria. Judges will review short-listed photos and winners will be notified in April 2016. Prizes include a Nikon D3300 HD-SLR camera with a two-lens kit and a camera bag, three Nikon COOLPIX AW130 cameras, two Nikon COOLPIX S3700 cameras and a Photographic Rockstar Workshop with contest judge Bogner. Winning images will be exhibited at City Hall and other civic centres and featured on the City’s website and in City communication materials.

This is the second Snap & Share photo contest. The first took place last summer/fall.
