Inaugural Nikon European Film Festival Winners Announced

Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 25th March 2015 – Nikon today announces the winners of the inaugural Nikon European Film Festival in association with independent film organisation, Raindance and award winning Italian actress and director, Asia Argento. ‘Voiceless – Stop the Bullies’ by Jagjeet Singh, UK, takes the Grand Prix top prize. He will win a Nikon D810 film kit and an all-expenses paid, one week networking trip to the Cannes Film Festival in May 2015.

With over 300 short films submitted from budding film makers across Europe, ‘Voiceless – Stop the Bullies’ by Jagjeet Singh, was selected as The Grand Prix winner by the jury during the final judging session in Rome. The film, which had a strong anti-bullying message, was praised for its ability to combine a compelling narrative with technical prowess. The other category winners selected by the jury were:

• Best Narrative – ‘Frame of Reference’ by Joel Jonsson and Christian Gardo, Sweden
• Technical Excellence – ‘Powerless’ by Martin Taube, Sweden
• Best Student Entry – ‘L’amour’ by Camille Van Wessem, Czech Republic

The Festival also included a Best Film as voted for by the Public category, based on individual likes and shares received on the Nikon Film Festival Hub, which was won by ‘Greenwoodo’ by Marko Kovac, Serbia.

The Nikon European Film Festival challenged enthusiasts and film professionals alike to create a short film of up to 140 seconds in length around the theme ‘A Different Perspective’. Within this theme entrants were asked to define perspective as a combination of their attitude towards a subject, their relationship to the story being told, and the physical position from which they observe it.

Asia Argento, Head Judge and Chair of the jury for the Nikon European Film Festival, commented: “We were absolutely blown away by the incredibly high standard of the films submitted. All of the films we saw were completely original in their own right and we were particularly impressed with how the entrants interpreted the theme, ‘A Different Perspective’. The quality of the entries submitted by amateur film-makers is also testament to how advances in technology have made film-making accessible for a greater number of people, now than ever before. I’m very pleased that Nikon is at the heart of making this possible for aspiring artists across Europe and around the world.”
