“Every Moment Counts” creates an intimate portrait of Manny Vaughn, a real-life cod fisherman from Nova Scotia’s New Minas/Centreville community.

- The Competition is FREE to enter and there is no obligation to make any purchases.
- Any participant under the age of 18 (at the date of entry) must obtain and provide parental authorisation before his or her registration in the Competition. This parental authorisation may also be required by the Organiser before the awarding of any prize. The Organiser reserves the right to cancel any account held by a minor who does not provide parental authorisation within the required time period.
Turning an everyday moment into a compelling narrative requires a level of observation native to good storytellers and filmmakers. It means seeing the ordinary with new eyes, reflecting daily life with a different perspective. What your story is about and how you tell it is up to you, but it must be clearly inspired by an everyday moment. It’s as simple as that: pick a moment from daily life and go make a film. We want you to express your creativity, so our theme is simple and straightforward, letting you tell your story in your own style. We want to see how you can take the mundane and make it memorable on screen.
Prizes
There are five (5) prizes available to win in the Competition, one (1) for each of the following categories: ”Best Film-Grand Prix”, “Best narrative/story”, “Technical Excellence”, “Best Student Entry” and “People’s Choice”.
Winners of the People’s Choice, Technical Excellence, Narrative, Best Student Entry shall be awarded a D750 kit made up of a D750 body, a 24-85VR lens, and an ME-1 microphone worth €2,300
People’s Choice: The winner of the “People’s Choice” category shall be decided on the basis of which film has obtained the most votes according to the following formula: (voting formula subject to change per 1 November 2015).
- The vote will take place exclusively on the Site. The vote is open to any private individual with the exception of those responsible for organising the Competition. Each voter may only vote once per film and per calendar day using the “Vote” button.
- The public vote ends 1 February 2016.
- Only the votes recorded during this period will be taken into account in the final ranking.
- At the conclusion of the Public Voting Period, the voting tallies will be reviewed and verified by the Competition Entities.
- The one (1) entrant legitimately receiving the highest number of positive votes by the Nikon European Film Festival user community will be declared the “Winner”. In the event of an equal number of votes for several participants, the winner shall be selected by the jury.
- The winner shall be awarded a D750 kit made up of a D750 body, a AF-S NIKKOR 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR lens, and an ME-1 microphone worth €2,300.
The winner of the Best Film-Grand Prix shall win an All Inclusive, one week networking trip to the Cannes film Festival in May 2016 as the guest of Raindance (T&Cs apply) to include:
The Grand Prix winner will receive a Nikon D810 film kit and an all-expenses-paid networking trip to the Cannes Film Festival 2016, as the special guest of Raindance.
- 7 nights in either an apartment or hotel room.
- Flights to Nice.
- Transfers to & from Nice.
- 7 x €50 per day per diems.
- Market pass (industry accreditation) – giving free access to all screenings (availability dependant), free access to all industry screenings (over 3000), free access to industry networking events, free access to national pavilions.
- Behind the scenes guided tour with Elliot Grove on Saturday 16th May 2016 (this will include instruction of how to get tickets, where you can go with a market pass and what events to go to) and a D810 “Cinema” kit, made up of a D810 body, a AF-S NIKKOR 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR lens, an ME-1 microphone, worth €4,000, and a private screening of the winning film at the Cannes Film Festival.
The winner of the Technical Excellence Prize shall be awarded:
- a D750 kit made up of a D750 body, a 24-85VR lens, an ME-1 microphone, worth €2,300.
- The Organiser shall also contribute €3,000 to fund an initial project drawn up by the winner.
The winner of the Narrative Prize shall be awarded:
- A D750 kit made up of a D750 body, a 24-85VR lens, an ME-1 microphone, worth €2,300.
- The Organiser shall also contribute €3,000 to fund an initial project drawn up by the winner.
The Best Student Entry Prize: The participant must also be a student or recent graduate (having graduated less than one (1) year ago).
- The winner of Best Student Entry Prize shall be awarded a D750 kit made up of a D750 body, a 24-85VR lens, an ME-1 microphone, worth €2,300.
- The Organiser shall also contribute €2,000 to fund an initial project drawn up by the winner.
Entry
The uploaded videos shall follow the theme of the Competition: “EVERYDAY MOMENTS”.
- The Competition may be entered via the website www.nikonfilmfestival.com (hereinafter “the Site”) and shall be promoted on the main community platforms.
- The participant must register on the Site by completing the online application form [and submitting their film]. Registration is open continuously from on or about 13:00 (Amsterdam time) on 13/10/2015 to 10:00 (Amsterdam time) on 1/2/2016. The time of registration shall be deemed to be that of receipt of the registration request on the dedicated Competition server, hosted by the provider that the Organiser has chosen for this purpose. No other method of participation (in particular postal applications) is valid and will not be acknowledged.
- Each participant will be identified by his or her surname, first name and address. Each participant may only upload one (1) video lasting between 30 and 140 seconds, in a HD (High Definition) format, shot on any device. Any video that does not meet these conditions shall be excluded from the Competition. All videos must be in English or have English sub-titles.
- Each video may be co-directed by one or a maximum of two participants. In this case, one participant shall designate himself or herself as the “main participant” during registration. If the video is awarded a prize, only the participant described as the “main participant” shall receive the prize, and shall be responsible for sharing this with his or her co-director. The Organiser shall not be liable for the way in which two co-directors distribute a prize between themselves.
Jury
Winners decided by a jury vote The winners of “Best Film-Grand Prix”, “Best Narrative”, “Technical Excellence” and “Best Student Entry” shall be decided by a jury (hereinafter the “Jury”) made of four members as follows:
- Asif Kapadia, Writer/Director and Chair of the Jury
- Elliot Grove, Founder of the Raindance Film Festival
- Pieter ten Hoopen, Filmmaker &Photographer
- Dirk Jasper, member of staff from Nikon
The decisions of the jury shall be made principally on the following criteria:
- the pertinence of the video to the Competition theme;
- the quality of the script, photography and production; and
- the technical quality.
The Best Technical Excellence prize shall be awarded by the Jury, whose decision shall be made principally on the following criteria:
- the pertinence of the video to the Competition theme,
- the technical quality.
The “Best Student Entry” Prize shall be awarded by the jury whose decision shall be made principally on the following criteria:
- the pertinence of the video to the Competition theme;
- the quality of the script, photography and production; and
- the technical quality.
The Best Narrative prize shall be awarded by the jury, whose decision shall be made principally on the following criteria:
- the pertinence of the video to the Competition theme; and
- the script quality.
….By submitting a video into the Competition, each participant warrants and represents that (a) the video is original and does not infringe the rights of any third party, including, but not limited to, copyright and other intellectual property rights. To this end, the participant shall ensure that he or she has authorisation from any third parties who contributed either directly or indirectly to its creation and/or who may consider that they have a right upon which they may wish to rely, in particular, image rights, and shall assume responsibility for any payments that may result therefrom; (b) the participant is free to enter into and fully perform its rights under these terms and conditions and has not entered into any other arrangement, agreement or commitment which could affect its obligations hereunder; (c) the participant has not won an award in any previous competition.
…..By submitting a video into the Competition, the participant irrevocably grants the Organiser a non-exclusive, sub-licensable, transferable, royalty-free, licence for a period of two (2) years commencing on the last date on which a competition winner is announced to use the video throughout the world for the purpose of promoting the Competition, including without limitation, advertising and promotional activities, including a right to reproduce, edit, adapt and publish the video as the Organiser sees fit, including the right to publish it on a website and pages on social networking sites. For the avoidance of doubt, the Organiser shall have the right to screen a submitted video at an event announcing the winner and at their discretion to make further screenings….
