Nikon Teases the New Z 8 Mirrorless Camera

It is now official: the Nikon Z 8 is to be revealed on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at 8:00 a.m. EST. How do we know it’s the Z 8? See the subtle “8” hidden in the graphic at the very bottom right (replacing the last question mark). I needed to enhance the image to see the number pop.

According to rumours, the Nikon Z 8 is basically a Nikon Z 9 with the vertical battery grip removed, thus resulting in a more compact and lighter camera. However, it is still not as small as the Nikon Z 7 or as its direct competitor, the Sony A7R V.

There are a few differences (minus = worse, plus = better):
– body construction of plastic instead of metal
– battery as the Z 7, not the Z 9
– LCD is 2-axis, not 4-axis, tilt
– Dual Memory cards accept CFexpress and SD (not QXD)
+ 8.3K/60P
+ Shutter to 900 sec.

The Nikon Z 9 is a formidable camera, and so the Z 8 will be, too. Features aside, its main weakness is unfortunately still that huge DSLR-sized body and weight.
