Nurse Edith Shain in iconic Alfred Eisenstaedt WWII photograph dies aged 91

Alfred Eisenstaedt took the iconic WWII photograph of an unknown American sailor kissing a nurse in Times Square on August 14, 1945. The nurse was later identified as Edith Shain who recalled the event: “And this guy grabbed me and we kissed, and then I turned one way and he turned the other.” Ms Shain died at her home in Los Angeles on Sunday at the age of 91.
