EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This Olympus TOUGH TG-6 Review is based on a production model. All sample images are unretouched, except where specified.

It doesn’t come tougher than the Olympus TOUGH TG-6. You can casually throw the TG-6 into your backpack and it will survive being crushed by your other stuff. You do not have to worry should you accidentally (or purposefully) get it wet. In fact, you can safely shoot in the rain, in the pool or in the sea. If you accidentally drop it, it will keep working. You can keep shooting even when the temperature drops below freezing. You do not have to put it away when it is blowing dust, sand, rain or snow. Interested? The Olympus TOUGH TG-6 ticks all these features. It is also compact enough to carry in your pocket, looks great and takes good quality pictures.

Even though it’s an entry-level camera, meant for casual shooting, the TOUGH TG-6 does not compromise on image quality. A fast F2.0 lens means better low-light capability. A prism-folded design gives 25-100 mm (equiv.) 4x optical zoom. Anti-reflective coating minimizes ghosting and flares and a dual-pane protective glass construction prevents condensation and fogging on the lens. Keeping the image sensor resolution to 12MP provides a good balance between capturing details and limiting noise. You can record in RAW for total control over post-processing. No wonder then that photographers use the TG-6 (with the appropriate accessories) to also do serious underwater photography and videography.

With the Olympus TOUGH TG-6, you have a worry-free compact camera that is rugged enough to allow you to take good quality still pictures and 4K videos almost anywhere, anytime. It balances resolution, low-light capability, auto modes, and manual operations. With built-in GPS and Wi-Fi, you can remember where you took a shot and share it wirelessly using your smartphone. It is also backed up by a system of accessories to further enhance its usability, such as the PT-059 Underwater Housing that allows you to take the TG-6 down to a depth of 45 m (147 ft).
