OM System OM-5 Micro Four Thirds Mirrorless Camera Features 20.4MP, 50MP Handheld High-Res Shot, 6.5 Steps 5-Axis IBIS, Live ND and Starry Sky AF

For its first OM System-branded Micro Four Thirds mirrorless camera, OM Digital Solutions has chosen to launch the OM-5. The OM-5 features 20.4MP resolution on a 4/3 Live MOS image sensor, with a 50MP Handheld High-Res Shot option. It’s basically an upgrade of the OM-D E-M5 III with up to 6.5 shutter speed steps of 5-axis image stabilization (7.5 steps when combined with a compatible lens), built-in Live ND up to ND16 (4 shutter speed steps), and the very practical Starry Sky AF for easy astrophotography.

Besides Starry Sky AF, other practical computational photography features that set it apart from its competitors include Pro Capture (captures the 14 frames before the shutter button is pressed), Focus Stacking (captures 8 shots at different focal positions and automatically combine them to generates a single image), Live Composite (watch the image build on the Live View screen in situations where exposure control is difficult), Keystone Compensation (view effects in the Live View screen, while using vertical/horizontal simultaneous trapezoidal compensation and perspective enhancement), Live Bulb, Interval Shooting/Time Lapse Movie, Focus Bracketing, HDR, Color Creator, Art Filter, and Fisheye Compensation.

The OM cameras have probably the best 5-axis IBIS (In-Body Image Stabilization) that makes no-tripod handheld shooting possible. The IBIS on the OM-5 is also compatible with video recording and can be combined with the dedicated video electronic stabilization for stable, hand-held 4K recording with no time limits. Those who post a lot to social media will welcome Vertical Video that allows videos recorded in vertical orientation to be saved as vertical files.

It delivers the same high level of weather resistance as the OM SYSTEM OM-1 flagship model: IP53 protection class dustproof and splashproof performance with freezeproof protection to -10°C (14°F).

It uses the BLS-50 battery, and the bundled USB-AC adapter can be used to charge the battery in the camera (but not to power it).

– 20.4 Megapixel 4/3 Live MOS
