Original Clock With 3 Connected Hands

Continue Time – kinetic artwork / functional clock from Sander Mulder on Vimeo.

I’ve seen a one hand clock that tells time quite well, but this is probably one of the most original construction I’ve seen so far.

This “Continue Time” has 3 hands but the Second hand rotates around the tip of the Minute hand which itself rotates around the tip of the Hour hand.

In a reversal to what we are used to, the Hour hand is the longest, followed by the Minute hand and the shortest [though it looks to me to be almost the same length to the Minute hand] is the Second hand. Anyway, you’ll quickly be able to tell which hand is which by the speed with which each rotates.

It’s kind of tricky to tell the time especially when all the hands are rotating off to the right or left.

Got to see it! (The beginning of the video shows the construction. The clock portion starts at the 01:02 mark.)
