Panasonic Teases Improved Phase-Detect AF In New Camera

Our New Year hope that Panasonic will address its lagging Tracking AF may soon be fulfilled. Today, Jan 4 at 10:00 a.m., Panasonic is expected to announce a LUMIX camera (new or update) with phase-detect AF (PDAF). So far, it has stuck with Contrast-detect AF in all its cameras and has lagged behind its competitors in Tracking AF capability. That may — or may not — be changing, since it also has to implement the right Tracking AF algorithms for success. The fact that it is teasing this release hints at a successful implementation. We’ll see.
